MasDesk license terms.

These license terms are an agreement between you and MAS Softworks, the name under which the developer publishes MasDesk (“we”, “us”). The licensor’s full details are in the legal notice. By installing or using MasDesk you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not install or use the program.

01Licensed, not sold

MasDesk is licensed to you, not sold. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to install and use it under these terms. All rights not expressly granted to you remain with MAS Softworks.

02What you may do

  • Install and use MasDesk on the Windows computers you use, for personal or work purposes.
  • If you got MasDesk from the Microsoft Store: install and use it on the devices allowed by the Microsoft Store usage rules (Microsoft Usage Rules) for your Microsoft account. These terms never give you fewer rights than those rules.
  • Make the backup copies you need.

03Free version and MasDesk Pro

  • The free version is complete for basic use and does not expire: automatic sorting into the default boxes, Inbox, one box of your own, roll-up, boxes visible with “Show desktop”, hidden native icons.
  • MasDesk Pro unlocks extra features, for example unlimited boxes, Quick Search, Peek, your own sorting rules, the Games box, folder boxes, saved layouts, more styles and colors, icon tint, extra system icons and AI sorting of the Inbox. The current list is in the app and on the product page.
  • MasDesk Pro is bought once in the Microsoft Store, as an add-on to MasDesk. One-time purchase, no subscription. It includes all updates to MasDesk 1. A future major version (MasDesk 2) may be offered as a paid upgrade, on favorable terms for those who already have MasDesk Pro. We will not deactivate MasDesk 1 or its Pro: after a new major version is released, MasDesk 1 receives fixes and Windows compatibility updates for at least 12 months, and anyone who bought MasDesk Pro in the previous 90 days gets the upgrade for free.
  • Free trial. With the Microsoft Store version you can try every Pro feature for 14 days, once per Microsoft account, without paying and without entering a payment method. At the end MasDesk goes back to the free version: what you customized with Pro (extra boxes, rules, colors) is set aside, without touching your files, and comes back as it was if you buy MasDesk Pro.
  • The same applies if MasDesk Pro is no longer active, for example after a refund: the Pro features stop, but nothing is deleted.
  • The purchase and the trial are tied to the Microsoft account you used. On another PC, sign in to the Microsoft Store with the same account and use “Restore purchase” in MasDesk: the trial continues where it was, it does not start over.
  • Payment, VAT and refunds in the Microsoft Store are handled by Microsoft under its terms of sale. Your statutory rights are not affected.
  • The version installed without the Microsoft Store (installer) is the free version, without a trial: “Upgrade to Pro” opens the MasDesk page in the Microsoft Store.

04What you may not do

Except where the law expressly allows it despite this limitation, you may not:

  • decompile, disassemble or otherwise reconstruct the source code of MasDesk;
  • work around or disable the Pro license check or other technical limits of the program;
  • distribute, sell, rent, lend or sublicense MasDesk, or make it available for others to copy (to share it, share the link to the official page);
  • remove or change copyright and trademark notices;
  • use MasDesk in breach of the law.

05What MasDesk does on your PC

  • MasDesk does not move, rename or delete the files on your desktop: boxes show virtual references to the real items. The only exception is the “Delete” command in an item’s menu, which moves the file to the Recycle Bin after a confirmation.
  • If you turn the option on, MasDesk hides the native desktop icons and makes them visible again when it closes; after an unexpected shutdown it does so on the next start. You can always bring them back from Windows too: right-click the desktop, View, Show desktop icons.
  • Settings, layouts and logs stay on your PC. How we handle data is explained in the MasDesk privacy policy.
  • Optional features that use third-party services, such as classification with artificial intelligence through your own API key, are also subject to those providers’ terms.

06Third-party components

MasDesk contains open source components, each under its own license. Their notices are in the THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt file distributed with the program and can be reached from the Settings. Those licenses apply to those components.

07Updates

We may release updates that fix bugs or improve and change features. The Microsoft Store version is updated through the Store. These terms also apply to updates, unless an update comes with new terms.

08Warranty

MasDesk is provided “as is”, to the extent permitted by law. Beyond the warranties required by law we give no other warranties: in particular we do not warrant that MasDesk will run without interruptions or errors on every Windows configuration.

If you are a consumer, this does not limit in any way the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content (for Italy, Consumer Code, articles 135-octies and following, introduced by Legislative Decree 173/2021, implementing Directive (EU) 2019/770) or any other rights that the law of your country gives you and that a contract cannot take away.

09Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law:

  • our total liability for damages related to MasDesk is limited to the amount you paid for MasDesk Pro (for the free version alone, no amount);
  • we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable damages, such as lost profits or loss of data.

These limitations do not apply in case of intent or gross negligence, to personal injury, or in any other case where the law does not allow them. Mandatory consumer rights are not affected.

10Term and termination

These terms last as long as you use MasDesk. You can end them at any time by uninstalling the program. If you seriously breach these terms, your right to use MasDesk ends.

11Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, the mandatory rules of your country of residence still apply, and disputes fall under the courts of the place where you live.

12Microsoft Store

If you got MasDesk from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft distributes it and collects payments on our behalf. The licensor is MAS Softworks, not Microsoft, and Microsoft does not provide support for MasDesk.

13Changes and contact

We may update these terms: the current version is published on the MAS Softworks website and comes with new versions of MasDesk. Changes do not reduce your rights to a MasDesk Pro you have already bought.
